I have a passion for conceiving, designing and implementing solutions that make a real difference to customers' busineses

My passion is using technology to deliver real business benefit to the customers that I work with. I had very little say in the development of my first IT project, BATES for the Ministry of Defence, but since then I like to think that I've had a leading role in ensuring that the solutions I've worked on have delivered real business benefit to the various customers that they have served.

I've worked on punched card based computing, implemented "green screen" solutions, seen the introduction of Windows software into main stream business, and am now heavily involved in cloud based computing. Despite all of the various changes and evolutions in computing and IT in general, the truth remains that technology is a servant to the business and not the other way round. If technology isn't delivering business benefit then it's the wrong technology.

My aim is to work closely with the business managers and directors, and with the people who will actually use the software, to ensure that there is business alignment and integration of business processes before any IT decisions are made. Only once the business is aligned, and business people onboard with the necessary changes, can technology hope to play a meaningful part in driving the business forward. I firmly believe that the majority of business focused IT projects are at least 60% about business culture, people and processes and, at most, 40% about technology itself.
